Take advantage of our free gas BBQ facilities to cook yourselves a feast overlooking the best views in Strahan. Your choice of meat, condiments and drinks are available from reception so getting organised for a delicious feast will be completely hassle free.

The Gardens and Birds
Please feel free to enjoy Gordon Gateway's award winning gardens and surrounds.
A wide variety of native birds are attracted by the gardens. Commonly seen are blue and brown wrens, honey-eaters and black cockatoos, which have a distinctive black and yellow head. Please feel free to put your old bread in the numerous bird feeders.

Strahan is a lively, bustling town and there is never a dull moment. Activities are available to fill your day with adventure or give you a chance to surround yourself in this amazing wilderness.

Strahan also has a pick up and return Shuttle Bus for those wishing to leave their vehicle at Gordon Gateway during the cruise or any other activity day or night.

World Heritage Cruises
Cruise along the Gordon River and around Macquarie Harbour with this locally owned and operated company, operating every day except Christmas Day.
Choose from a Morning Heritage Cruise or an Afternoon Heritage Cruise (Jan - Mar). Bookings are essential and we can organise this for you.
Gordon River Cruises
Offering a half day morning cruise (all year) and a half day afternoon cruise (Oct - Mar) around Macquarie Harbour with short stops at Heritage Landing and Sarah Island. They have a choice of 3 levels of seating and comfort. Bookings are essential.
Wild Rivers Jet
Take an exciting jet boat ride from Strahan to the King River. A trip which is great fun for the whole family, the duration is 50 minutes. Bookings are recommended.
A combined jet boat and 4WD trip to the Teepookana Plateau Huon Pine forest is also available. Bookings essential.
West Coast Yacht Charters
Choose from a Crayfish Lunch, Kayak and Fishing Cruise on the Stormbreaker yacht, or a one or two day sailing cruise around Macquarie Harbour and the Gordon River.
Sandboarding and Tobogganing on the Henty Sand Dunes. A fun activity of kids or just the young at heart. Pick up the boards from The Shack. This activity depends on the weather, so check conditions before you go.
The West Coast Wilderness Railway
The completed reconstruction of the unique 'rack and pinion' Abt Railway offers one way and return trips from Queenstown and Strahan, along the King and Queen Rivers and through some of the most beautiful rainforest and stunning scenery on the West Coast.
Wilderness Air
Take a 1 hour and 20 minute scenic flight on a seaplane to the Gordon River, landing at Sir John Falls for a walk through the unique South West rainforest. Bookings are essential and flights are seasonal and subject to weather conditions.
Seair Adventure Charters
For a flight with a difference, take a helicopter to the Teepookana Plateau on the King River and land amoung an ancient Huon Pine rainforest. Or take a fixed wing flight over the South West wilderness. Bookings are essential and flights are seasonal and subject to weather conditions.

For those who want to make the most of their time, Strahan Marine Charters offers private fishing charters, sightseeing tours and access to some fantastic bushwalking and birdwatching spots.
4 Wheelers
A great way to explore the Henty Sand Dunes is on a 4 wheel motorbike tour. Operating most days, this activity is weather permitting and you must hold a current drivers licence.
The Ship That Never Was
Take in a bit of culture on the West Coast by going to see Tasmania's longest running play, which tells the hilarious story of the last great escape from Sarah Island by 10 convicts. Great entertainment for the whole family. Performed every day at 5.30pm at the Strahan Visitor Centre Amphitheatre.
Walks around Strahan
There is a lovely 40 minute return walk to Hogarth Waterfalls through People's Park and a temperate rainforest right in the middle of Strahan. Platypus can often be seen in the creek.
The Strahan Foreshore walk follows the waterfront from Regatta Point around to West Strahan. Once part of the old Abt railway, there are many interesting relics along the way.
Short Drives around Strahan
Water Tower Hill Lookout is situated at the top of the hill behind the Strahan Village and has excellent views over Strahan, Macquarie Harbour, and out to Cape Sorell Lighthouse and the Southern Ocean.
Ocean Beach is the longest beach in Tasmania and is a great place to watch our amazing sunsets or see the muttonbirds return to their nests in the sand dunes (Oct - Apr).
Macquarie Heads is the southern point of Ocean beach. Hells Gates, Entrance Island and breakwaters can be viewed from the beach.
Henty Sand Dunes are an amazing shifing sand dune system, where you can spend hours exploring and getting away from it all.
Other Activities
There are a large number of galleries and souvenir shops around Strahan, where you can lose yourself for hours just having a browse of the superb crafts and art on display.
Visit one of the town's 2 operating Huon Pine sawmills to see the timber in its raw state.
Hire a golf club, fishing rod, bicycle or kayak for a little adventuring on your own. There is safe swimming at West Strahan Beach.
